A police investigation is underway after a video emerged depicting a man intentionally tearing down and then kicking a portion of the Great Wall, The South China Morning Post reports.
The brief video shows a man intentionally ripping a brick out of an unmaintained section of the wall. He then kicks the iconic structure and strikes a kung fu-like pose. The police officially launched an investigation on July 19, after the video went viral earlier this month.

Another man’s voice can be heard in the background saying, “Emperor Qin Shihuang (China’s first emperor, who lived 260 – 210BC) built the Great Wall with much effort, but he sabotaged it,” the same article reports.

It is unknown where and when the video was filmed. However, police in Huailai county believe that the incident occurred in Dayingpan village. This particular section of the wall was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Police are actively searching for the man in the video. According to the article, vandalizing the Great Wall is a crime punishable by up to 10 years in jail.
