Anthony Bourdain recently visited Sichuan for the latest episode of Parts Unknown, bringing along longtime friend and three Michelin star chef Eric Ripert for a crash course in Sichuan cuisine.
In the video, Bourdain and Ripert sample the best Chengdu and Leshan have to offer, from back alley eateries, to street food, to more refined, upmarket restaurants. In the report, Bourdain watches gleefully as Ripert sweats and struggles to cope with their spicy hot pot.
The non-stop combination of spice, baiju and more spice eventually caused the Ripert to give up and plead for Western food – a feeling we all understand.
