Chinese Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, falling on August 25 this month. However, research agency China Skinny reports that young Chinese people’s attitudes and priorities have shifted away from marriage and children this year. Instead, with the current pandemic resulting increased quarantine time, people have focused more on self-improvement and self-love. The agency predicts this will be reflected in upcoming Qixi campaigns.
Here’s a roundup of some of our favorite Chinese Valentine’s Day collections:
1. Dior

The Dioramour capsule collection was designed by Dior creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, and focuses on the color red and polka dots. Monseiur Dior called red, “the color of life,” and polka dots were a pattern he was fond of. Elsewhere in the collection ‘I love you’ in 38 languages is plastered over various bags and accessories in a graffiti-like design.
2. Valentino

Valention’s capsule collection includes both a men’s and women’s line which is “focused on an aesthetic of urban romance... versatile silhouettes, a palette of white, red and black and a profusion of hearts.”

Gucci does a cute take on the saying ‘you’re the apple of my eye’ for its collection. In its short promo film for Qixi, they use #IAppleU# to replace ‘I love you.’ The cartoon green and red GG apple logo is inspired by the the apples picked from the Garden of Eden, which is used to express the pure and shy innocence of lovers.
5. Montblanc

Mr. Bags is back at it again as he teams up with Montblanc for the second time. The brand’s latest monogram pattern is featured on the limited edition silver belt bag and silver sling backpack.
6. Michael Kors

Michael Kors ambassador Leo Wu is the star of MK’s Qixi campaign this year. This collection is a bit more laid back, with oversized T-shirts, hoodies, a bucket hat, a crossbody flight bag and a travel pouch that were codesigned by the young Chinese star.
7. Prada

Prada’s approach to Qixi seems to veer off the track from the typical red hearts and love theme. Instead, they have created a sweet short film about modern day romance and longing inspired by loved ones separted by COVID-19. To celebrate, they have launched a bright lemon yellow nylon and Saffiano leather Re-Edition handbag and bucket hat.
8. Yves Saint Laurent
