GN Club has a magnificent goal – to cultivate a high-quality syndicate of consumers who appreciate fine food, good music and dynamic nightlife in general, as per the expectation of its manager Ivan Zhu. Former manager of the locally renowned and excessively acclaimed True Color club, Zhu has been a club manager for six years, previously working for Face Club in Yuexiu District.
“We would also like to establish GN Club as a one-stop source that provides recreational activities for Guangzhou businessmen,” Zhu tells us, while boasting about the club’s capacity to accommodate as many as 700 patrons and 55 sofas – defeating all other Guangzhou clubs in the category of seating.
Vividly glowing with purple lighting, GN Club is settled on the fifth floor of Utopa shopping mall, a two-minute walk from Leide Metro Station. It’s relatively quiet at 8pm, but the vibe begins to charge at 10pm as midnight creeps closer and go-go dancers start to twist.
With eight rooms dedicated to karaoke – the largest of which can hold 50 patrons and the smallest 20 (both require a minimum expenditure of RMB2,000 to reserve) – GN Club not only embodies a nightclub but also a Western restaurant, serving food between 6 and 10pm. The grilled meat platter (RMB388) is a generous offering of beef ribs, lamb gigot, duck breast, beef sausages and pork fillet, the taste of which, we are sorry to say, are run-of-the-mill. The seafood pasta (RMB58), flavored with shrimp, mussels and squids, tastes like, well, seafood plus pasta.
Zhu has recruited some top-notch bartenders, lighting artists and DJs that formerly rocked the scene in True Color. After midnight, house music and EDM will blow the roof off, bringing patrons an ecstasy usually only found at music festivals. Grab a bottle of Heineken (RMB60), Levrette Blonde (RMB80) or whatever you drink and dance along.
