On Monday, August 8, all public and community sports venues will offer free admission during regular hours as part of Guangzhou’s annual Fitness Day.
All city and district-level arenas, as well as 45 public sports venues and more than 300 community athletic centers will participate in the event, which coincides with this year’s Olympic Games and is themed ‘Promoting Health and Fitness: Building the China Dream Together.’
Since you know every ayi in town will be out and about that day, squeezing in as much spandex dance time in an air-conditioned gym as humanely possible, it’s probably best to reserve a spot ahead of time (which you can do via WeChat and the directions below) or head to a smaller community sports venue instead of, say, Tianhe Sports Center, to avoid crowds.
To reserve a court, field or place in a pool or gym, add the official account: ‘群体通’ on WeChat and then click the link ‘点击这里下载’ in the automated welcome message to download the app.
Once you have the app, click the ‘我的’ in the bottom right and then the last option, ‘设置,’ to link your profile to WeChat or QQ. Enter your phone number (it must be a local area code) and then the confirmation code sent via text.
Search for sports venues by clicking ‘场馆’ on the bottom and narrow your search by sport (there are pictures for this step) and then district (under 广州市).
Once you find a suitable venue, select ’08-08’ and then choose a time from the available green slots labeled ‘可预约.’ Once you’ve selected a time slot, click ‘提交订单’ (it should say RMB0) and you’re done!
See you on the court!
