Good news for Canton residents yearning to visit coastal Fujian: starting from July 1, high-speed trains departing from Guangzhou will make your trip to Xiamen much faster and more convenient.

According to Guangzhou Daily, a newly-added train, leaving from Guangzhou East Railway Station at 12.32pm, will carry passengers to Xiamen Station in five hours and 10 minutes. The fast train is slated for five stops at Dongguan, Pingshan, Shanwei, Chaoyang and Chaoshan.

Another train, to start operating on July 2, will depart from Guangzhou South Station at 3pm, transporting passengers to Xiamen North Station in just four hours and 20 minutes.

Currently, high-speed train travelers in Guangzhou must first travel to Shenzhen North Station, where they can take a four-hour train to the coastal city of Xiamen, in Fujian province.

One of China’s hottest tourist destinations, the city of Xiamen is home to a number of famous attractions, including Gulangyu, a former international settlement and now a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Gulangyu boasts "a mixture of different architectural styles including ‘Traditional Southern Fujian Style,’" ‘Western Classical Revival Style’ and ‘Veranda Colonial Style," according to UNESCO. Xiamen is also only a 40-minute ferry ride away from the Kinmen Islands, another tourist hot spot that's currently governed by Taiwan.

Tickets for the Guangzhou East-Xiamen train, priced at RMB255 for second class and RMB372 for first class, are already on sale. Passengers can book via WeChat, Alipay and 12306.cn
