A little more polished than your average xiaolongxia (crayfish) restaurant – though that's really not saying much – Hei Xian offers fairly traditional servings of Shanghai's favorite summertime seafood snack. They're best enjoyed with ice cold beer, friends and plastic gloves to protect your mitts from the strong smell.
What to order:
Salt and pepper mantis shrimp (椒盐虾菇, jiaoyan xiagu), RMB98.
'Supreme' crayfish stir-fried with ginger and green peppers (至尊黄金龙虾, zhizun huangjin longxia), RMB158.
Boiled crayfish with vinegar dip (白灼龙虾, baizhuo longxia), RMB188.
Baked oysters with garlic and chilli (烤生蚝, kao shengmao), RMB60.
