In case you missed it, the China International Comedy Festival hosted by Kung Fu Komedy has been going on all week, culminating with a grand finale at the Jiadu Theatre this Friday, April 28.
Around 40 comics from Singapore, Taiwan, France, Thailand, USA, Australia, Japan, Sweden and Iran have strutted their funny stuff in the prelims, and only three from each round will be selected to compete at Friday’s showdown in one of Asia’s largest comedy festivals.
The 2017 champion will be earning a cash prize of RMB14,000, and will also be booked at some of the top comedy clubs in the US, namely the Comedy Cellar (New York City), the Comedy Store (LA), Flapper's Comedy Club (LA), as well as the Burbank Comedy Festival.
The third preliminary round is happening tonight (Thursday, April 27), but the six finalists from the first two rounds have been named: Drew Fralick, Ollie Horn, Storm Xu, Scott Mitchell, Reyhaneh Rajabzadeh and Byron Murphy.
The Chinese-language competition is taking place on Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30, with some of the biggest names in Chinese comedy set to perform. Shi Laoban will be headlining in Mandarin on Sunday night.
