Saturday night sees the city's football derby, Teda vs Quanjian, and it has been a tale of two Tianjins this season. That's Tianjin previews the big game...
Tianjin Teda
Teda have not won in 13 games and, currently second bottom, are looking to avoid relegation from the Chinese Super League. Friday night did not help matters, as it saw them humbled 5-1 at home to Changchun Yatai.
Start Man: John Obi Mikel
Joining from Chelsea on a free transfer at the beginning of the season, the 29-year-old Nigerian midfielder brought ten years at Stanford Bridge to a close, turning down offers from Valencia and Marseille, in return for a salary in excess of £7 million and anew challenge at Teda.
Tianjin Quanjian
In contrast, newly promoted (and big-spending) Tianjin Quanjian lie in fourth, just one point and position away from a Champions League qualification spot. Unbeaten in five games, safe to say they enter the game strong favorites.
Star Man: Axel Witsel
The 28-year-old Belgium midfielder joined from Zenit St Petersburg back in January, and is believed to have turned down Juventus for a £15.3 million salary, and the chance to play under Italian World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro, who is now Quanjian head coach.
With only six games to go, both teams are in vital need of three points, if for very different reasons. It is all set to be a cracker.
