AN ART SHOW VOL.9

An Art Show Vol.9 will be held at Fruity Space, Saturday May 13 2017. Shannon Lethbridge started An Art Show over a year ago to create a platform for all things art. The upcoming event will be her final experimental endeavour here in Beijing which will infuse art, photography, animation and film with music and poetry.

第9次“艺术展演”（An Art Show）将于5月13日（星期六）在果味空间（Fruity Space）举行。 “艺术展演”Shannon 在一年前组织发起的，目的是为各种艺术创造一个展示交流的平台。这次展演将是她在北京的最后一次实验性尝试，涵盖以下领域：音乐，诗歌，绘画，摄影，动画和电影。

MUSIC MEETS ART/音乐遇到绘画:

Music, digital art and animation will come together at Fruity space. First off we have a live music performance by A.Borealis (AKA Shannon Lethbridge) who will be showcasing a still-shot animation and playing experimental-folk tunes on the ukulele. Next up we have Yahkehbu (雅克布) who will be showcasing a short opera whilst playing the guqin , a Chinese traditional instrument, as well as projecting his own digital art during his performance. Finally we will have a special acoustic performance by Dan Taylor.

在果味空间，音乐，数字艺术和动画汇聚在一起。首先，Shannon将给我们带来一些用UKULELE演奏的实验民谣和她制作的静帧动画作品。接着，Yahkehbu (雅克布)会弹奏古琴(中国传统乐器)表演一个短歌剧，同时用幻灯展映他的数码艺术作品。最后，Dan Taylor会给大家带来特别的原声吉他音乐作品。

POETRY MEETS ART/诗歌遇到绘画:

There will also be a digital display of photography and art inspired by poetry. For this particular show Eduardo Akins (photographer) will be using analog film to capture the picturesque and romantic poetry by Chen Bo, Shui Wong (artist) will be exposing raw poetry by A Relationship who put his writing piece together from a personal wechat history, Sam (artist) will be applying her talent to paint a smoggy scenery to match poems by Matias, Jinna (artist) will be creating a moving image capturing the essence of Shafei's poetry & singing and lastly we have siblings Tendai Msimang (illustrator) and Lethu (poet) teaming up for a series of poems called "The Night is an Old Friend". We also have Swin (poet) and Sam (story teller) reciting during the event.

摄影师Eduardo Akins将使用模拟电影（ANALOG FILM）技术捕捉Chen Bo的富有诗情画意的浪漫诗歌，艺术家Shui Wong将展示一些原始的未经整理的诗歌---来自个人微信上的写作片段的组合，艺术家Sam绘制了烟雾弥漫的舞台布景来呼应Matias的诗歌，艺术家Jinna创作活动影像来捕捉Shafei的诗和歌中的一些要素。最后，我们还有插画家Tendai Msimang和诗人Lethu的兄妹组合带来的组诗《黑夜是一位老友》。其间，还有Swin 将朗读他的诗歌，Sam将给我们朗读他的短篇小说。

POETRY MEETS FILM/诗歌遇到电影:

On top of that we have Lelia (poet) reciting poetry over a short film that she made with Zachariah Selley (photographer). And Au Faie 李海得 (film maker) screening a video art project.

除此之外，Lelia将在朗读诗歌时为我们展映她和摄影师Zachariah Selley制作的一部短片。电影导演Au Faie(李海得)将为我们展映一件影像艺术作品。

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS/ 关于音乐家:

A.Borealis (AKA Shannon Lethbridge curator of An Art Show and lead vocals for The Plum Trees) has a passion for all things art. She has created her own unique method of writing lyrics, poetry and stories. First she creates instrumental music followed by a session of yoga, next she paints and to finalise the process she puts pen to paper to draws words from her artwork. All in all her writing is very internal, emotional and visual while her music is celestial and ambient using her voice and ukulele.

A.Borealis（北极光）：也即Shannon Lethbridge，Shannon是"艺术展演"活动的创始人，梅子树乐队（The Plum Tree）的主唱。她热爱各种艺术，平时喜欢用一种特别的方式写作歌词，诗歌和故事----首先弹奏一些器乐曲，然后做一套瑜伽，然后画画，最后从这些把从这些画里得到的灵感诉诸笔端。总之，她的文字内在，敏感，富于画面感，她以UKULELE和人声为主的音乐听起来无比美妙。

Yahkehbu (Jacob C. Alford García) is a composer, performer and digital artist based in Beijing. He plays the guqin, an ancient seven-stringed Chinese zither. Currently studying at the Central Conservatory of Music, he has traveled all over China holding recitals and performances of new works, traditional music and original compositions for qin. Most recently he released an album of improvised qin music 《Lush Mountain, Tranquil Courtyard》. Yahkehbu embraces traditional Chinese culture, American art music, and electronic techniques in order to organize sounds for the modern ear.

雅克布 (Jacob C. Alford García)是一位作曲、演奏及多媒体艺术家。现生活于北京，目前在中央音乐学院进修。近几年他在中国各地多次做了古琴音乐演奏会。最近录制了个人首张古琴即兴演奏专辑《Lush Mountain, Tranquil Courtyard》。雅克布的音乐是用电子音乐技法把中国传统文化和美国艺术音乐融合在一起，形成一种现代的声音。

Is a new short opera for Chinese instruments and electronics, originally designed for viewing online. The work speaks to elements of Chinese literati culture of which the guqin is closely associated. The opera is an attempt to discover how yayue or Elegant Music such as guqin fits in this new generation of a growingly multi-cultural China and among our adopted digital environments.

是一个全新用中国乐器与电子音乐演奏的歌剧作品。最初的想法是为网络视频而创作。这个创作是关于中国文人文化与雅乐。在这个作品中可以让我们思考像这样的古代文化，比如古琴是如何重新进入我们现代的多元化中国以及我们的数字化生活。

Dan Taylor has been performing in and around beijing for the last few years. he fronts the bands 'the harridans' and 'phuture vulture and the absolute', and often plays solo acoustic gigs.

Dan Taylor: 过去几年一直在北京和北京周边演出，他领导着两支乐队'the harridans'和'phuture vulture and the absolute'，他也经常表演不插电独奏。

ABOUT TENDAI MSIMANG + LETHU:

Currently based in Johannesburg, Tendai Msimang is a 27 year old illustrator and freelance designer from Durban, South Africa. With a background in fine arts, Tendai now works with digital and traditional illustration & graphic design. After attended the University of Camberwell Collage of Arts where he completed his bachelors in illustration, explored forms of printing processing, and worked alongside artists of various disciplines, he has since Lived and Exhibited in Paris and London.

“The Night is an Old friend” is a series of prose poems put together regarding the subject of old age. The poems presented tell the same story/moment from different perspectives. It has been a goal of ours, my brother and I, for some time now to work together and the subject of old age presented an opportunity for the both of us to explore a topic we were unfamiliar with. Tendai has always been a fan of detail (his work is lined and intricate), while I’ve always made it a point keep my writing somewhat simple. I suppose we were intrigued by the result such a collaboration might create.

“New Beijing” is a video art project exploring the idea of a retrospective philosophy behind the latest city planning attitudes in Beijing. The venerated idol of 老北京 lends itself to ever-restrictive zoning policies. Constant use of the old as an authority over the present is explored through the lens of the future. “新北京”是一个视频艺术作品表达北京的回眸发展的注意。
