Celebrate the Days of Old Shanghai at Yue Space's Qipao Jazz Party

Here at That’s Beijing we love any excuse to get all dressed up in 20s and 30s garb. Add a little jazz music to the mix and we’re totally sold.

That's why we're jazzed (see what we did there?) that Yue Space is throwing an old Shanghai-themed party next Sunday night (August 6). There will be an awesome jazz quintet performing, so expect lots of great music, dancing and good times. Dress up in your best 20s- and 30s-style clothes. There is a dress code so definitely free to go all out!

Ladies break out your fanciest quipao and guys rummage through your closets and find your most dignified smoking jacket or vintage vest.

Whatever you wear, just make sure you're ready to dance!

Meet the Band:

Vocals: Nuomi is one of the most active jazz singers in Beijing. She has established long-term cooperation with a number of outstanding jazz musicians. Since 2017, she has started to explore the possibility of combining jazz with the classic musical works of Shanghai Paramount.

Piano: Feng Wei is a rising jazz musician in China, who mainly focuses on traditional jazz. He formed the Seesaw Jazz Quartet, which is known for combining jazz with elements of Chinese folk music.

Bass: Sheng Zhi teaches bass at the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy and is the bass player of Los Amigos. He does it all from pop to funk to jazz.

Saxophone: Li Si studied under Lu Tingquan. He mainly plays traditional jazz, including bebop, hardbop and cool jazz.

Drums: Wang Feifan started playing the drums at four and a half years old. He studied under Izumikoga, Li Wenjie, Wu Yongheng and Shao Haha, and has since formed several bands.
