A massive crane is destroying the rooftop of Kokomo, Sanlitun Bar Street’s iconic terrace.
The rooftop is the latest victim of Beijing’s citywide renovations, which have been shutting businesses across the capital on a scale not seen in years.
In a video provided to That’s Beijing by WeChat user Prometheus, a crane stretches past the six floors of Sanlitun Bar Street’s Tongli Studios to reach Kokomo’s roof.

Kokomo closed their rooftop earlier this week after recieving a visit from local authorities. In its stead, the bar has taken over neighboring Rec Room. It is unsure at the moment whether the bar will be able to reopen a new terrace, or if this move is permanent.
Until now, Kokomo has been largely unaffected by the closures that impacted so many of its neighbors. Construction crews began bricking over Sanlitun’s infamous ‘Dirty Bar Street’ in April, forcing popular hangouts such as Luga’s to close.
The crews came for the other side of the street later this spring, shutting Bar Street mainstay Aperitivo, which has since reopened in Sanlitun SOHO.
Kokomo is one of the street’s longest-running bars.
