Hear that slowly-building pulse? Good. Unfortunately, the Floyd decided to take their time getting this album started, so please read slowly.
China has announced plans to land its Chang'e-4 probe on the dark side of the moon - and it will be the first time humans have gotten an on-the-ground view of the chunk of lunar surface which never faces the earth.
The dark side of the moon, despite its name, isn't actually "dark" (it is, thankfully, still a side of the moon). It is simply the side that never faces our lil' old earth.
Quartz reports that the dark side is rife with more than just dank beats from 1973 (which we hope you're still listening to). Because it faces away from the earth's radio waves, it could be a good place to establish a moon-based radio telescope. Also, there is a potential that this area of the lunar surface has easy access to lucrative metals and minerals within the moon.
But we know the real reason China is gunning for this chunk of space rock: as China Daily reported earlier today, it's all about that feng shui.
