A provocative and heart-rending video in which a little dog is grilled alive in public has once more raised questions about the way animals are treated in China.
The incident occurred on November 25, in broad daylight, outside of a residence building on Guanggu Liu Lu in Wuhan. It was brought to the attention of Hubei TV by a Ms. Feng, who claimed to have witnessed the affair, prompting her to contact local media.
Feng told Hubei TV that she felt uncomfortable at the sight of the man burning the canine while it was still alive. In the video captured by an onlooker, the animal can be seen tied to a crude grill, howling as a man tosses cardboard pieces onto the flames.
“I was walking by the building and saw a crowd of people. When I stepped closer, I saw a small dog was being burned in the fire and it was still alive and barking. It was terrifying,” said Feng.
Though criticized for being a savage by passersby, the man paid no attention and never ceased attending to his makeshift barbecue until the dog stopped barking and was scorched black as charcoal.
Later that day, a reporter from Hubei TV approached the man, who told the reporter that he was a security staff member in a nearby residential building and the poor creature, whom he had raised, met such a bad end because “it pissed and shit everywhere." People had criticized him for the dog's excretions, leading to his extreme solution.
