Beijing unveiled its latest fleet of electric buses today. In addition to being super eco-friendly, each of the 10 buses comes equipped with an air purifier to help filter PM2.5 out of the air, Xinhua reports.
The move comes just weeks before the central heating is to be turned on in northern China, which means things are going to get a lot more polluted in the capital. The winter months are historically some of the most polluted in Beijing.
The new buses are now running in the heart of downtown Beijing – on Chang’an Avenue – and are part of the capital's efforts to curb pollution.
The electric buses only take 15 minutes to charge and can go roughly 130 km.
Beijing is now home to roughly 1,300 electric buses and plans to have a total of 4,500 by the end of the year and 10,000 by 2020.
The capital boasts 151,000 electric vehicles in total.
Beijing is currently hard at work to provide adequate charging stations for its electric vehicles and plans to build 100 additional stations by the end of this year.
Local officials aim to cut 290,000 tons of vehicle-produced carbon dioxide this year.
