Young Girl Seriously Injured at Mall Playground in Wuhan

A young girl in Wuhan, Hubei, recently suffered a serious injury after a large, log-like swing plowed into her. Footage of the incident began circulating on Weibo and WeChat yesterday and shows the girl pushing a horizontal, cylindrical swing with two other children on it. In the video, the youngster falls down and the swing cruises back over her, folding her body in half, with the back of her head touching her feet.

We have chosen not to include the video in this story.

According to a Weibo post from Chutian Metropolis Daily, the girl’s parents were not with her when the tragic incident occurred. Her mother was reportedly “in the mall,” presumably the same mall the playground is located in, and arrived at the scene following the accident.

The girl was transported to Wuhan Children’s Hospital and her injury is not life-threatening, according to Chutian Metropolis Daily. The shopping mall’s vice president said they will cooperate with the family to ensure the girl receives the appropriate care.

“My god, my whole body hurts watching this,” wrote one netizen, while others were more pointed in their commentary.

“It's always these kinds of parents,” wrote one Weibo user, “behaving like the rest of society is their kids’ free, personal nanny.”
