Shenzhen’s cheetah-speed growth continues, as most recently indicated by the announcement that the city is set to receive two new high-speed railway stations.
The new transport hubs, Xili Station and Shenzhen Airport Station, were recently approved by the Guangdong provincial government and China Railway Corporation and have been included in the 2016-2030 development plan for the rail network, according to Shenzhen Daily.
Shenzhen Airport Station will, as its name suggests, be located at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and serve as an integral station on the Shenzhen-Maoming high-speed rail route. The new station will also act as an auxiliary station for Xili Station.

Xili Station will be located in Nanshan district and service a number of routes, including Shenzhen-Maoming, Ganzhou-Shenzhen and the yet-to-be-completed Coastal Passenger Special Line. Fast trains traveling to Huizhou and Zhuhai will also stop off at the new station.
Announced by the Central Government in 2008, the Coastal Passenger Special Lane will connect the Pearl River Delta with the Yangtze River Delta. Once completed, the trip from Shenzhen to Shanghai will take six hours.
The recently announced stations are intended to further Shenzhen’s goal of becoming a major rail transport hub. Once construction is finished and the doors open at Xili Station and Shenzhen Airport Station, Shenzhen will officially be home to seven major railway stations, according to Shenzhen Daily.
