A huge fire which broke out in a 34 floor residential building in Dalian, Liaoning Province Monday was allegedly caused by welding work

The blaze started around midday Monday after a welding operation ignited insulation materials, witnesses said. Strong wind caused the fire to spread quickly. Firefighters managed to put out the fire after around three hours.

A resident in a top floor flat was trapped for a period but fire fighters managed to rescue them, according to Shanghai Daily. All other residents are believed to have been evacuated safely.

A 2010 fire in Shanghai which left at least 58 people dead was started when unlicensed welders sparked bamboo scaffolding, causing a blaze which eventually engulfed the entire building.
