Fujian highway covered in ads for 16-year-old's birthday party

A major artery through the Fujian city of Jinjiang has been festooned with the face of a local 16-year-old boy.

"Welcome to join my 16th birthday party," it reads — with "party" in English, naturally.

Provincial road 308 is now home to 16 advertisements for the local boy's sweet 16.

The ads were arranged by the young man's great-grandfather, and cost a nice, rounded total of RMB1,600.

Netizens have been decrying the act as a manifestation of the insufferable arrogance of the nouveau riche. However, perhaps we should spare a moment to consider the possibility that the kid is mortifyingly embarrassed by the fuss his family is making — because what self-respecting teenage boy wouldn't be?
