The internationally renowned annual whisky extravaganza, Whisky Live, is officially landing in Macao on September 2, 2024!
Following its successful debut in Hong Kong in 2016, Whisky Magazine partners with Macao Entertainment Resort Holdings Limited ("MERL") to present the inaugural Whisky Live Macao 2024 from October 11 to 13 (Friday to Sunday).
This highly anticipated event will be held grandly at City of Dreams Macao, featuring over 40 exhibitors showcasing the finest whiskies and culinary delights from around the world.
Located in the prime area of Cotai, City of Dreams Macao boasts a spacious 20,000 sq. ft. exhibition venue that offers attendees an unparalleled opportunity to sample popular and rare whiskies from across the globe while engaging with producers, distilleries, and whisky experts.
Whisky Live Macao 2024 will feature four themed zones across City of Dreams' signature venues, encompassing whisky and spirits tastings, food pairings, live music performances, and a cocktail garden.
The main venue, the Grand Theatre (4th floor), will offer over 300 whiskies, including renowned and independently bottled brands hailing from Scotland, Ireland, England, the United States, and Japan.
Many of these whiskies will be making their debut in Macao, with rare and hard-to-find expressions adding to the diverse range of flavors and layers for customers to savor.
To commemorate Whisky Live's maiden voyage to Macao, a limited-edition, independently bottled single cask of sherry-matured whisky from Hokkaido's Akkeshi Distillery has been meticulously selected.
Only 130 bottles will be available as part of the package tickets, and another 130 will be available for on-site sale, making them highly collectable.
Distilled in 2020 and matured in sherry casks, this exclusive bottling showcases Akkeshi's unique character, with its smoky notes intertwining with refreshing citrus and oceanic flavors, a testament to Hokkaido's terroir.
Another highlight of the event is the outdoor Cocktail Garden, situated in the picturesque Green Oasis Garden on the third floor of the resort. Offering a selection of spirits from the UK, US, Japan, and Hong Kong, the garden's signature cocktails will be crafted by seasoned mixologists from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
With resident DJs performing every night, attendees can indulge in expertly crafted cocktails amidst the picturesque European-style garden, adding a unique dimension to this whisky extravaganza.
Both the main venue and Cocktail Garden will feature food pairings, complemented by exquisite dishes prepared by City of Dreams' culinary team and a selection of meats, cheeses, and seafood from the UK and Scotland, perfectly matched with the whiskies.
As a staple of Whisky Live, live music performances will take center stage at the Grand Theatre.
With its magnificent setting, evening tickets grant access to jazz performances by various ensembles from Hong Kong and Macao, including renowned acts like Ted Lo Quartet and Dr. Joao Mascarenhas Quartet, immersing attendees in a symphony of music while they savor their whiskies.
Beyond the exhibition, Whisky Live Macao 2024 will collaborate with brands and whisky connoisseurs to host masterclasses in the City of Dreams Convention Center (2nd floor).
Featuring 14 expert-led sessions, topics range from brand stories, to regional whisky tastings, and the art of whisky-making and maturation.
The participating experts include Jacky Zhang, Suntory Global Whiskies China Brand Ambassador, Hirokazu Shirai, President of SAKURAO Brewery & Distillery, Hiroaki Nakamura, Overseas Sales Manager of Mars Whisky, and Stephen Mack, Founder of Asia Wine & Education Centre in Hong Kong.
Details on the specific whiskies and themes to be tasted during these masterclasses will be announced shortly.
