August 16: Italian Death Metal Band NEID
Touring Asia in August, death metal band NEID is bringing the party to Guangzhou this week. Boasting an extreme, punky sound and emotional music, the Italian band attracts audiences who love Toxic Holocaust and Ratos de Porã.

August 16-22: 2017 Evergrande World Snooker China Championship
The world's top snooker stars will turn up the heat in Guangzhou this month as they battle for the 2017 Evergrande China Championship. The seven-day contest will see the world’s No. 1 snooker player Mark Selby, ‘Wizard of Wishaw’ and current champion John Higgins, Judd Trump, Star of the East Ding Junhui and a dozen other snooker professionals compete for prizes totaling GBP700,000 (RMB6.2 million), with the winner’s cheque valued at GBP150,000 (RMB1.33 million).

August 17: Trivia Night at Hooley’s!
After a painful summer hiatus, trivia is returning with a vengeance to Hooley’s Irish Pub! Head over to indulge in a wide range of questions and stand the chance to win some delightful (read: boozy) prizes, which are awarded to the top three teams. Hang around after to enjoy live music.

August 18 & 24: Mobike Plus Sun in Sky Fashion Week
In concert with Mobike, Sun in Sky is hosting a Fashion Week that features renowned designers. On August 18, Hu Sheguan, who has been designing attires for the Dutch royal family for 10 years, will bring some of his finest works, while, on August 24, Lin Jinliang, one of China’s best fashion designers, is to wow audiences with high-end, fashionable garments.

August 19-20: Banff Mountain Film Festival
In 2010, Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour was first introduced in China, which is one the 40 countries to host this world-renowned outdoor film festival. As the first professional outdoor film and lifestyle promoter, the film festival has influenced an increasing number of people to embrace the outdoors and an environmentally friendly lifestyle. A total of 29 films constituting four programs will be screened.

August 19-20: FMB World Cup Guangzhou Warm-up
The real-life version of Real Steel is happening this week in Guangzhou. The Major League FMB (Fighting My Bots), a combat robot competition (think Robot War and BattleBots), is hosting a warm-up contest in Guangzhou, with 12 robot clubs set to battle their metal fighters for an audience of curious attendees.

August 20: Nevergiveup Charity
Kicking off at 11am on August 20, That’s PRD, in conjunction with the NEVERGIVEUP Charity, is hosting a sure-to-be-kickass festival at Kingold Century.
The charity gathering will be comprised of 16 booths, each selling unique products, with payment made via WeChat. All funds raised at the booths will go to the Guangzhou Society For Children’s Welfare and Housing.
In addition to a myriad of shopping opportunities, there will be oil painting, a story corner, lantern making station, ball toss, cooking classes and the highly-anticipated Lego station! Basically, if you have children, you can rest assured they will be entertained.

August 20: Michael Learns to Rock
They made their name known to Chinese audiences with their single ‘Take Me to Your Heart,’ an English adaption of the famous Chinese hit song ‘Kiss Goodbye.’ Danish band Michael Learns to Rock was named after Michael Jackson and modeled after British bands Johnny Hates Jazz and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. With their debut album released in 1991, the Danish band has been performing on stage for almost 30 years.

August 20: Barber Culture Experience by Harroman
A shaving product brand born in Birmingham, the UK, Harroman is focused on creating the very best men’s grooming products. This week, Guangzhou’s facial hair fanatics have the chance to experience the Harroman experience in an ‘old school’ atmosphere. Grooming professionals will be on onsite to share their barbering knowledge and host workshops. Food and drink will be served during the event and a skateboarding performance is scheduled for entertainment.

Until August 20: Republic of Sports
The ‘Republic of Sports’ campaign, hosted by adidas, is taking over Haixinsha Island. Aimed to promote ‘creativity in sports’ through a series of interactive activities, this event is free to the public.
While some of the activities and workout classes (ATF training, basketball, soccer, running, boxing, yoga) need an advanced reservation through the adiCLUB WeChat, there are enough ‘drop-in’ activities that you can pretty much show up in your fitness gear and get in a full workout.
