Summer is coming and that means it's festival season in China. One of the longest-running music festivals, the MIDI Music Festival has just announced that Britpop innovators Suede will participate in their Shanghai and Beijing editions. They will join other international acts like legendary funk bassist Larry Graham and his Graham Central band and German metal group Larimas Profundere with more acts to be announced soon. They'll be joined by a host of China's top indie acts, continuing the festival's tradition of spotlighting the strong musical tradtion of the Beijing MIDI School of Music.
Although details of the Beijing festival are still in the midst of being confirmed, the MIDI group announced two festivals in Shanghai during an April 2 tree planting party. Festivals will be held at Pudong Sanjia Port from April 25 to 27 and again from October 1 to 3. Limited edition pre-sale ticket packages for both events are available for RMB300 per person with the first 1,500 to purchase receiving a special commemmorative souvenir.
Since forming in 1989, Suede has had a major impact on British music and style. Their first two records, Suede and Dog Man Star are unimpeachable classics that ushered in the Britpop wave of the 1990s that included Blur, Oasis, Pulp and many others. Although lineup changes had slowed down the group, they've enjoyed a recent resurgence and a growing fanbase on the Mainland due to their numerous visits. Stay tuned to That's Online for more updates about the MIDI Festival and other festivals.
