New cafe: V Coffee

Founded by Benjamin Knopp in 2008, V Coffee was one of the early companies to source and roast their own beans locally, selling bags for reasonable prices to coffee lovers in search of more than Starbucks and Costa.

After more than five years of growing success, the delivery and wholesale company finally has a brick and mortar spot to call their own. While the Times Square basement inside the new CitySuper may not sound ideal, this cafe and roasting boutique is actually a nice little retreat, cordoned off from the mall hubbub.

Coffees are made from 100 percent Arabica beans and a menu of single origin coffees (RMB80-109/bag, RMB38-48/cup), written on the blackboard behind the counter, speaks to exotic locales: Ethopia Yirgacheffe Aricha (RMB99/bag), Bumda Island Decaf (RMB109/bag) and more. Brewed using a drip machine, Rwanda Fair Trade (RMB109/bag) is imbued with a subtle fruit scent, bitter and tart then smoothing into a rich and mellow aftertaste.

Like the beans themselves, the drinks here are lovingly made and delicious. Enjoy a rich cup in the spacious seating area and watch people rushing by while enjoying your laid-back moment.
