Category 2

Musings on a Quiet Night
Li Bai

Before my bed a pool of light,
Is it hoarfrost upon the ground?
Eyes raised, I see the moon so bright;
Head bent in homesickness I’m drowned.

Spring View
Du Fu

On war-torn land streams flow and mountains stand;
In vernal town grass and weeds are o’ergrown.
Grieved o’er the years, flowers make us shed tears;
Hating to part, hearing birds breaks our heat.
The beacon fire has gone higher and higher;
Words from household are worth their weight in gold.
I cannot bear to scratch my grizzling hair;
It grows too thin to hold a light hairpin.

On Autumn
Liu Yuxi

Only desolation autumn has been known to arouse;
I would say autumn day is much better than spring morn.
When a crane soars into the blue sky flapping at clouds,
My poetic sentiment follows her to high heaven.

No Title
Li Shangyin

So hard for us to meet, Harder still to part.
Languid though the east wind, Faded flowers are blown apart.
The silkworm’s silk is exhausted, Only when its life is spent;
The candle’s tears are dried, When itself to cinder’s burnt
